Team news: Port Vale pick same starting XI as Kings Lynn game for Tranmere match
Port Vale manager John Askey has selected the same eleven that were beaten by Kings Lynn for the League Two home tie against Tranmere Rovers.
The Valiants are looking to make it four League wins in a row as they take on managerless Rovers at Vale Park. Despite the poor performance in the cup, Askey has kept faith with the same players and resisted the chance to make any changes despite some promising peformances in midweek by a shadow Valiants squad.
It means that veteran forward Tom Pope again remains up top leading the front line and is supported by wide men David Amoo and David Worrall. Adam Crookes maintains his place as left-back ahead of Cristian Montano.
Forward Harry McKirdy, who impressed and scored in midweek in the 4-2 Football League trophy win over Liverpool B, plus the returning Devante Rodney, who has returned from self-isolation, are named on the bench. Another option is fit again Manny Oyeleke fresh from a start in midweek in the Football League Trophy competition.
Visitors Tranmere Rovers include veteran central defender Peter Clarke, who once had a loan spell with the Valiants back in 2003. Other well known faces in the Rovers line-up include experienced duo forward James Vaughan and midfielder Jay Spearing.
The Port Vale starting eleven will be:
Brown, Clark, Smith, Legge, Crookes, Joyce, Burgess, Conlon, Amoo, Pope, Worrall
Subs: Visser, Brisley, Oyeleke, Cullen, Rodney, Montano, McKirdy
