Something to think about – manager’s thoughts on Port Vale trialists
Manager John Askey says the performances of Port Vale’s trialists in the 2-1 friendly defeat to Blackpool has given him “something to think about.”
The Valiants fielded four trialists in the game – goalkeeper Dino Visser, midfielder Ethan Beckford, defender David Fitzpatrick and forward Kieran Hayes.
They’ve all done OK. No one has let themseves down. It gives you something to think about…
Of the four, Visser arguably had the most eye-catching performance with a number of close range saves during the opening 45 minutes while in contrast Hayes was only on the pitch in the closing minutes with little opportunity to impress.
Speaking to the official Port Vale website after the game, Askey commented: “They’ve all done OK. No one has let themselves down. It gives you something to think about.”
Speaking about the match Askey added: “Usually at this time of the season you are playing the local teams (which is not possible due to delays to the non-league season) so it was always going to be tough against a Blackpool team who have played one or two games already.
“(We have) plenty to work on. I think they will probably be strong next season, Blackpool. It was a good work out for us.”
Who’s on trial at Vale Park?
Dino Visser – South African goalkeeper formerly of Crewe Alexandra.
David Fitzpatrick – experienced former Macclesfield Town defender.
