That’s why we got him in – Port Vale manager on Mitch Clark return
Port Vale manager John Askey said he was delighted with the performance of defender Mitch Clark after he made his “second” debut for the club.
The defender had a successful loan spell last season and was signed for a second time during the January 2020 transfer window.
Clark made a surprise start in the home fixture against Salford City after regular left-back Cristian Montano fell ill. Clark impressed and his run was instrumental in Vale taking the lead during the 1-1 draw.
He didn’t know yesterday that he was going to play, but he’s come in, we know he’s got quality, that’s why we’ve got him in…
Speaking after the game Askey told the media: “I thought he was excellent. He didn’t know yesterday that he was going to play, but he’s come in, we know he’s got quality, that’s why we’ve got him in.
“I thought both full-backs did really well, along with quite a few others who have performed well, but he’s slotted in, he knows all the players and that’s why we got him in.
“They’re always going to improve the more games they have, and they give you that energy as well, energy and hunger, then with lads who are a little bit older around them, they help them and we’ve got a good mix at the moment so hopefully we can continue getting decent results.”
