Gets us going again – Port Vale manager on win over Stevenage
Port Vale manager John Askey says the narrow win over Stevenage “gets us going again” after the side recorded their first win of 2020.
It was hard work for the Valiants in an often dour encounter but the Vale won it when Tom Conlon was brought down in the box and striker Tom Pope converted the penalty to give the visitors a 1-0 win.
That gets us going again now. It creates a gap to the teams below us and we are only six points off third place…
The three points keeps Vale in play-off contention and Askey told the media after the game: “I am very pleased with the result. It was in difficult conditions but I thought we played some good football at times, although it looked like it would be a 0-0 until Tom got the penalty.
“That’s what’s pleasing, to come here and stand up to them. The attitude they showed right from the beginning was really good from the players, it’s not easy when you have been involved in something like that.
“That gets us going again now. It creates a gap to the teams below us and we are only six points off third place.
“So, we go to Morecambe and, if we can get back-to-back wins, then we are in a really good position.”
