Their lad was stupid – Manager says sending-off sparked Port Vale win
Port Vale manager John Askey says the sending of Jordan Cranston was a crucial element in their 3-1 home win over Morecambe.
The Valiants boss admitted that his side struggled in the first-half until the Morecambe midfielder was dismissed on the half-hour mark.
It did look as though it was going to be one of those days, but luckily for us their lad was stupid and got himself sent off…
Askey commented on the first-half display telling the media: “The first-half had gone and we had to concentrate on what we were going to do. We made the change and in the end it came good for us. This game was always going to be difficult because we were expected to win and it is never that easy.”
The manager felt that the visitors being reduced to ten men was crucial adding: “It did look as though it was going to be one of those days, but luckily for us their lad was stupid and got himself sent off.”
The Vale went on to score three goals in the second period as they turned around a 1-0 deficit at the break. Askey explained the tactical switch to 4-4-2 in the second-half adding: “When teams go deep there is no use just going long, you have to work the ball wide and try to get in behind them. Luckily we did that enough times to get the goals.”
