Fixture history: Port Vale versus Morecambe
Port Vale and Morecambe have only met on sixteen occasions before this weekend’s game. We take a look at some previous meetings between the two sides.
The first meeting – 2007
The two clubs first crossed each other’s paths in a Football League Trophy game in 2007. It was notable for defender Justin Miller’s only Vale goal while Luke Rodgers got the other as it ended 2-2 in normal time. As was usual in those days, Vale promptly lost the penalty shootout 4-2.
The first win – 2007
The Valiants’ first-ever win over Morecambe took place later that year as the two sides once more met in a cup competition. Vale won 2-0 in the FA Cup thanks to goals from defender George Pilkington and striker Callum Willock.
Vale’s biggest win – 2011
The Valiants thrashed Morecambe 7-2 in an end of season clash which was notable for two hat-tricks from Louis Dodds and Justin Richards. The other Vale scorer was Justin’s namesake Marc Richards.
The last time we met – 2019
The clubs last clashed earlier this year when it ended in a disappointing 1-0 home loss for the Valiants. Morecambe’s winner came from Aaron Collins while current Valiant Richie Bennett was in the Morecambe side that day.

The overall record
Port Vale have won five matches to Morecambe’s six victories and there have been five draws. At Vale Park, the Valiants have not recorded a victory in the last four games – a run that stretches back to that hammering in 2011. Let’s hope Vale can end that run this weekend.
