Just looking at it – John Askey explains Ben Garrett situation
Port Vale manager John Askey has confirmed that former Crewe Alex goalkeeper Ben Garrett is training with the club but remains cagey on whether the club will make him an offer.
Vale’s first-choice is veteran Scott Brown with youngster Jonny Maddison as back-up. However, Garrett has proven ability after a spell at neighbours Crewe. The keeper left Crewe at the end of last season but was left clubless after the collapse of Bury.
If we had loads money then we might think about signing him!
Asked by Sentinel reporter Mike Baggaley if Garrett was training with the Valiants, Askey confirmed he was commenting: “He is a free agent and he needs to train. It is good to have him training with us and have three keepers in, there is nothing more than that really. If we had loads money then we might think about signing him!”
Asked whether it was merely a training opportunity or an opportunity of a signing Askey added: “It is a bit of both. We are just looking at it, but it is more to help Ben at the moment.”
