Forward Ben Whitfield leaves Port Vale by mutual consent
Ben Whitfield leaves Port Vale: the Valiants have announced the departure of forward Ben Whitfield by mutual consent.
The forward’s exit was on the cards after he was transfer-listed in the summer. The 23 year-old Ben Whitfield initially joined Port Vale on loan from Bournemouth in 2017 and impressed enough for the Valiants to make a bid to sign him on a permanent basis in January 2018. The deal did not materialise and Whitfield remained on loan. However, Whitfield did eventually join Vale on a permanent basis in August 2018.
The forward was a regular under previous Port Vale manager Neil Aspin but fell out of favour with his replacement John Askey and Whitfield was one of two players transfer-listed at the end of last season.
A club statement on the official Port Vale FC website said:
Ben Whitfield leaves Port Vale
Port Vale Football Club and Ben Whitfield have agreed a mutual termination of the players contract.
Whitfield made 73 appearances for the club and scored eight goals over a two year period, with his goal against Chesterfield back in 2018 being the most memorable one.
We would like to wish Ben the best of luck for the future.
