Port Vale trialists eye final chance to impress John Askey
Port Vale manager John Askey says he is still looking to add players to his squad ahead of the new season.
Vale clearly need goalkeeping cover for first-choice Scott Brown and trialist Jonny Maddison should get another chance to impress in the friendly game against Bury. Maddison has been involved in all of Vale’s summer friendly games and looks likely to be offered a contract to replace the departed Sam Hornby.
Fellow trialist Rhys Browne has featured less often due to injury but could still impress Askey with an impressive performance on Saturday.
Askey told the Sentinel: “I’m still looking at the goalkeeping position and possibly one more players before the start of the season.
“In terms of what you would class first-team players, I think we have around the 22 mark, which is ideal for me.
“And if it comes to the stage where we’ve got to bring another body in, then we’ve obviously still got the loan market.”
