Port Vale manager gives update on trialists
Port Vale manager John Askey says he has been impressed with goalkeeper Jonny Maddison (pictured) while right-back Shaun Cummins has done “OK.”
Vale have seen the trialists play in two friendly games – against Kidsgrove and Leek – and both could have the chance to earn a full contract.
Askey said of former Darlington keeper Maddison: “Jonny has done well. he has a good attitude but we are still looking at more keepers. So, we will have a look at one or two more coming in this week and then just decide which is the best option.”
Vale are looking for a back-up keeper to Scott Brown after Sam Hornby rejected a contract offer to join Bradford City.
On right-back Cummings Askey added: “Shaun has done okay, He is a Steady Eddie so we will just have to wait and see with Shaun. We are going to have a look at one or two more so we will see how it develops. But as we saw today, Connell can play at right back as well. “
