John Askey on the news Port Vale sign Richie Bennett
The Port Vale manager commented on the signing saying: “He can score goals and he’s a good player. You can see that during his time at Morecambe he did really well and had a big impact in terms of their survival in the league. Hopefully, he can have the same positive impact for us.
“Richie’s a player that’s not always played down the middle as a striker, he’s also been played out on the wide left as well but he’s still got a good goal ratio to show for it so it’s a good sign. We’re still looking to bring in more so this is just the start.
“We’re also looking at Richie to take the pressure off Popey and provide good competition for him. The case has often been that if Popey doesn’t get into double figures for goals then the team struggles. Let’s hope Richie can do what Popey has done and find the back of the net regularly.”
