Port Vale retained list: nine released including Luke Hannant
Luke Hannant, Antony Kay and Dior Angus head a total of nine players who have been released by Port Vale.
Promising goalkeeper Sam Hornby has been offered a new deal while Danny Pugh’s playing contract has expired but talks are ongoing about a coaching role with the club.
Of the players released, Hannant is perhaps the biggest surprise as he was linked with a possible big money move to Championship side Bolton Wanderers earlier this season.
Young keeper Hornby has been unable to break into the first-team due to the form of player of the year Scott Brown but Hornby has impressed in reserve outings and could be the long-term replacement for veteran Brown.
It is no surprise that veterans Tonge and Kay were released as John Askey looks to refresh his squad.
The retained list now looks like this.
