Vale 1-0 Crewe reaction: Askey pleased, Artell embarrassed
Both managers have given their reaction after Port Vale’s 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra on Saturday.
The Valiants won 1-0 thanks to striker Tom Pope’s 101st goal in a Vale shirt.
“In the last seven games we have averaged two points a game which is promotion form. So, we want to keep that going and keep the confidence going. Everybody is enjoying it so we don’t want it to just slip away now. The pleasing thing was well was how well we played. I thought it should have been four or five really. I thought we played really well, created a lot of chances. To do this when we are in the position we are, the players have been fantastic.”
Port Vale manager John Askey
The performance matched the result. There’s no getting around the fact that we were awful – it’s as simple as that. We had players that thought they could whack it into the air and whack it as far as they can and thought that would be good enough – and that’s not. Yeah it was a bobbly, tricky pitch. And? Yeah they’re going to be a bit more direct than us. And? Did they play much football? No, but we didn’t half help them.
