A player who could never be accused of lacking self-belief, Edwards joined Vale in 2007 and after a patchy start to his Valiants career he was transfer-listed early in the 2007-2008 season. It prompted a memorable interview to the Sentinel newspaper in which the player claimed he was the “best player playing at Port Vale.” Edwards lasted until 2009 making 62 appearances and scoring twice. He later played in non-league football for Barrow and Mansfield Town, among others.
