John Askey: we want to beat Crewe for the Vale supporters
Port Vale manager John Askey says he wants to give supporters “something to cheer about” as his team prepare to take on rivals Crewe.
Supporters still pay to come through the turnstiles so we want to perform for them…
Askey told the official Port Vale website: “There’s going to be a good crowd and there is still a lot to play for, but it’s always one of the first games you look forward to at the start of the season. It’s all about the bragging rights, but they’ll be up for it just as much as we will.
“We have a little bit more riding on it, but hopefully we can continue doing what we have been doing and that’s playing good football. We want to play at a good tempo so that we give our supporters something to cheer about.
“If we start thinking that we’re safe then that’s when you can have problems, so we just want to finish the season off as strongly as we can.
“For myself as a manager, I want people who want to win every game regardless of whether we’re safe or not. Supporters still pay to come through the turnstiles so we want to perform for them.”
