Club confirms Port Vale bid for U21 International midfielder
Port Vale bid for Mark Sykes: Glenavon say that Port Vale have made a bid for Northern Ireland U21 midfielder Mark Sykes.
Glenavon player-manager Gary Hamilton confirmed to the BBC that the club had received a bid from Port Vale.
“At the minute I don’t know too much about it,” Hamilton said.
“There has certainly been a lot of interest in Mark and a bid was made about a week to ten days ago.
“That bid was rejected but I haven’t spoken to the chairman today to know if a new bid has come in.”
The Northern Ireland Under-21 international has been in superb form this season and has been linked with a move to clubs in England and Scotland.
The BBC reports that “talks are at an advanced stage” between the midfielder and the Valiants.
Sykes has scored three goals in 19 appearances for Glenavon this season and also scored for the Northern Ireland International Under-21 team in their Euro qualifier 1-0 win over Slovakia in October.
So far, the Valiants have yet to confirm or deny the transfer rumour but with the club struggling in the League new additions have clearly been earmarked.
