Port Vale manager says record-breaking debut shows club “is looking to youth”
Port Vale manager Neil Aspin says that 15 year-old Nelson Agho’s debut against Walsall on Tuesday night shows that “we are just trying to do something positive, with regard to the youth at this club.”
The centre forward became the youngest player to ever appear for the Port Vale first-team, a record previously held by Malcolm McKenzie.
He has made a step tonight which is positive for him, but you don’t put pressure on people of that age. But it is good for him and shows that the club is always looking to youth…
Aspin told the media: “We are just trying to do something positive, with regard to the youth at this club. He has been thrown on a few times for the youth team and we decided that, for his experience, and for his learning as well, it would be great for him to come with the first team.
“I don’t want to put any pressure on him, he is a young lad, still at school. He has made a step tonight which is positive for him, but you don’t put pressure on people of that age. But it is good for him and shows that the club is always looking to youth.
“It was nice for him tonight but I don’t want to take away from the fact I am happy with my experienced players as well.”
