“There was no fight, there was no desire” – Aspin’s verdict
Port Vale manager Neil Aspin did not hold back in his criticism after Vale’s season ended in a 5-0 loss to Cambridge.
Vale were comprehensively beaten in their final league game of the season on Saturday.
A disastrous performance but you would have to say we are not good enough at the moment and that is the top and bottom of it…
Aspin told the media: “I think it sums up the season. It sums up where we are at at the moment and it sums up how much we are going to have to do to improve.
“A disastrous performance but you would have to say we are not good enough at the moment and that is the top and bottom of it.
“There was no fight, there was no desire. Since players have got safe they obviously think they have done the job,” he said.
“As I said when we got safe, if that’s what we are celebrating – the fact that we have managed to avoid relegation – then it isn’t good enough.”
