Loanee Ben Whitfield has hailed the team’s character after ten-man Port Vale picked up their first win of 2018.
The sub’s late finish earned Vale a crucial 2-1 win over Chesterfield on Friday.
He commented: “It was a massive game, we needed the three points today. The lads showed great character when we went down to ten men.
“We needed to keep battling. We needed three points and that’s what we got.”
Speaking about his late goal he added: “Pope’s flicked it on, I’ve seen it, ran after it, took my shot early and it went in thankfully.
“There’s nothing better than putting the team into the lead. It gives us a confidence booster going into Monday.”
