Match report: Wycombe Wanderers 0-0 Port Vale
Goalkeeper Ryan Boot helped Vale keep a cleansheet and pick up a valuable point against promotion chasing Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.
Manager Neil Aspin made one change to the starting line-up with loanee Ben Whitfield replacing Michael Tonge in midfield.
It was a fairly even contest in the first-half with the home side’s Ade Akinfenwa having some early chances. However, Vale were also in the contest with chances for Hannant and Whitfield. It ended all-square at the break.
The Valiants made a half-time change as Dan Turner came on for Anton Forrester. The sub had an immediate chance but was unable to capitalise.
The home side had few clear-cut chances in the first hour as Vale’s defence coped well with giant striker Akinfenwa.
It was the Valiants’ Barnett who had the game’s next chance, drawing a save and there was a further chance for defender Charlie Raglan as Vale continued to enjoy the best opportunities.
In the closing stages the hosts then had a chance for sub Craig Makail-Smith but goalkeeper Ryan Boot was on hand to save. The keeper then repeated the feat and defenders cleared off the line in the dying minutes to maintain Vale’s cleansheet.
It was a valuable point for the Vale to earn in their efforts to beat the drop to non-league- especially as it came against one of the division’s top sides.
