Smurthwaite rules out Aspin and Askey for Vale job
The Sentinel says that Norman Smurthwaite has told them that Neil Aspin and John Askey are not candidates for the Port Vale manager’s job.
Gateshead boss Aspin and Macclesfield boss Askey have been among the bookies’ favourites and the newspaper says that they were told by a “senior source” at the club that Aspin was a contender only for the owner to contact them to deny the claim.
The newspaper says that the comments could “highlight a potentially crucial difference of opinion behind the scenes at Vale Park.”
Smurthwaite has said he has three “exceptional” candidates and one will get the job next week.
