Smurthwaite: I love the club and will only sell it to the “right party”
Port Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite posted on the OVF forum that “when the right party comes along l will hand over the reins.”
Responding to criticism of his ownership of the club on a forum thread, the Vale owner said that the running of the club will improve commenting that “When the right party comes along I will hand over the reins and I promise you it will be the right party. Until then can we just forget the ‘running off to the sunset’ and try and fix what is broken. It takes a lot to undo 10 years of neglect and some short comings of my own but it will improve.”

The chairman also said he had learnt from his time in charge of Vale adding that: “I have learnt a lot. I have not yet met the right people to sell the Club too but as and when they come you will be informed
The club needs to recruit the right calibre of people to deliver. The biggest thing l have learnt is I cannot do all these things but I can help ensure they are recruited.”
Smurthwaite also called for criticism to stop commenting that: “If people really want us all to succeed then the emotional garbage needs to be parked and genuine, constructive points put forward. With a fair wind and some lady luck things will improve.”
