Coach Andy Smith admits Vale were lucky
Port Vale first-team coach told the media that the Valiants rode their luck during the narrow 1-0 win over Stevenage in the FA Cup first round.
The Valiants were booed off at the end despite winning the match although it could have been a different result as Stevenage hit the inside of the post in the last minute.

Afterwards, Smith told the media: “Forty five was good and then in the second forty five, bits and bobs were okay. We rode our luck a little bit and Jak made some good saves, but it is the FA Cup.
“It happens every year in the FA Cup, it is totally different, you just have to stand up and be counted and grind it out because we knew they are a difficult side to play against. We stuck it out and we are in the next round.”
