Video: three ‘outstanding’ candidates for manager
Chairman Norman Smurthwaite has spoken to the official Port Vale website about the search for a new manager.
Some of the key points raised were:
- There have been 78 applicants
- Of those there were 15 “calibre” applications
- Five applicants that “I would never have expected”
- Three outstanding candidates
- Of those one “has done everything in English football but been out of the game for a while”
- Another was “considered to appoint when Micky left” and has contractual obligations for next couple of weeks
- Third applicant has never managed in the UK but is “extremely high-profile”
- All three want to be the manager of Port Vale
- Smurthwaite praised attitude of Dave Timmins and Michael Brown
- Paul Bodin has left for “genuine personal reasons” and was a “good guy”
- Some “pretty drastic changes” could come in the next few days regarding the retained list
- Trying to bring back the attitude of the team which won promotion under Micky Adams
