O’Connor on comeback trail as reserves hold Stoke

Last season’s player of the year Michael O’Connor played an hour for the reserves as they drew 1-1 with neighbours Stoke City.

O’Connor is recovering from a knee injury sustained in pre-season and could be in contention to make Vale’s matchday squad in a few weeks.

Midfielder Ryan Lloyd scored Vale’s goal in a 1-1 draw with the Valiants naming a strong reserve side.

Port Vale: Boot, Gibbons (Ede, 79), Deen-Conteh, Lloyd, Reeves, Faulkner, Birchall (Fraser, 61), O’Connor (Turner, 61), Hooper, Campion, Kelly.

Subs: Ferrie, Kapend, Ede.
