Vale reserves hit six in nine goal thriller
Port Vale Reserves knocked Wigan Athletic Reserves out of the Development League Cup with a thumping 6-3 away victory.
Defender Billy Reeves put Vale ahead on eleven minutes before Grant Holt equalised from the penalty spot on twenty minutes. It was 1-1 at half-time but Vale ran riot during a twenty one minute spell when they added another five goals.
On 46 minutes, striker JJ Hooper made it 2-1. Eight minutes later, Chris Birchall made it 3-1. On 63 minutes, Ryan Lloyd made it 4-1 then Colin Daniel made it 5-1 two minutes later and Birchall hit his second on 67 minutes.
Wigan added two consolation goals but it ended 6-3 to Vale at Christopher Park.
