Jack Round player profile
John Round, known normally as Jack Round was a midfielder or defender who was signed by Port Vale FC from Bolton Wanderer in 1930.
He had begun his career in the Birmingham non-league scene before joining Wanderers in 1925. However, after just 59 appearances in four seasons for Bolton he moved on to Port Vale in search of regular football.
Round found it at Vale being a regular in the 1930-31 season when the Valiants finished in a record high position of fifth in the Second Division.
After 133 appearances and five goals over five seasons, Round was released by Port Vale at the end of the 1934-35 season.
He then moved on to Carlisle United in 1935. However, while still a Carlisle player tragically he died on New Year’s Eve 1936 aged just 33 years of age. He had made 233 enior appearances during his playing career.
