Rumour: Striker Ben Williamson linked with Gillingham
A number of Internet rumours are linking out-of-contract striker Ben Williamson with a switch to League One rivals Gillingham.
The rumours cannot be confirmed and therefore must be treated with a degree of wariness as to their accuracy.
Williamson is one of a number of players out of contract at the club and if he follows Tom Pope out of the exit door, it would mean new strikers would be a priority for Rob Page.
Williamson first joined the Valiants from the Glenn Hoddle Academy in 2012 and although not a regular scorer, he does possess excellent pace and power. He has often been used as an “impact player” from the bench by both Micky Adams and Rob Page.
In total, Williamson has made 78 starts plus a whopping 91 sub appearances, scoring 28 goals. Last season he scored nine goals including a hat-trick against Hartlepool United in the League Cup.
The 26 year-old was offered a new contract at the end of the season.
