Mystery Port Vale ‘striker signing’ fuels fans speculation
A blurry photograph of a man set to go into the main entrance at Vale Park has led to much speculation about a potential new Port Vale signing.
The photograph (see it here) only shows the back of the person’s head but speculation is rife that the mystery man could be a targetman striker to replace the departed Tom Pope.
Some fans have suggested that the mystery man could be Uche Ikpeazu the powerful striker who has enjoyed success on loan with Crewe from Watford. He was linked to the Valiants last season, so it’s not impossible that the Vale would seek to sign him.
Havant and Waterlooville’s prolific JJ Hooper is another name which has been linked. The striker has been linked to several League clubs after a prolific 2014-15 season.
However, the hot favourite is Tom Elliott, a powerful striker who is a free agent after being released by Cambridge United. Elliott could be another “player with potential” as Vale look to build for the future.
Other players that have been mentioned include Matthias Pogba (dismissed by Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite posting on the OVF Forum) and Jonathan Forte (apparently dismissed by Oldham Athletic who have offered him a contract).
Of course, it could be none of these players and even if it is player he may not agree terms, but on the back of a successful week of transfer activity, hopes have been raised and speculation is rife.
