Ernest Collinge player profile
Ernest Collinge was a Manchester born half-back who first joined Port Vale FC in 1921.
He was a regular first-team pick for the Valiants during the 1921-22 as he made 41 appearances and scored five times all of which were penalties. He continued to be a regular first-team pick, including being ever-present during the 1922-23 season, until January 1924 when he broke his left leg.
Luckily, he made a speedy recovery from the injury and remarkably he was back in action just five months later. Unfortunately, the player then dislocated his right arm in February 1925 and the serious injury effectively ended his Port Vale career.
He was released by Port Vale in 1926 and subsequently retired from playing. He had made 153 appearances for Port Vale, his only club and scored nine times (with six of his nine goals for the Valiants coming from the penalty spot)
