By George! That didn’t last long…
In December we reported how former Valiant George O’Callaghan had landed his first managerial job as the coach of Sabah Rhinos in Malaysia. But he’s already been sacked…
O’Callaghan was appointed at the end of the Malaysian football season in July 2014 but in mid-January 2015, just days before the 2015 season was set to kick-off, it was announced that O’Callaghan had been dismissed – meaning that the former Valiant never managed the club in a competitive game.
The Sabah CEO Datuk Seri TC Goh told the media: “George O’Callaghan is sacked with immediate effect together with our fourth import Fazrul Nawaz from Singapore.”
“The reason being that they have been missing in action for a week despite having a contract with Safa, so we decided to sack both of them and take the necessary action to report them to the relevant bodies based on their contract with us.”
O’Callaghan at Vale Park…
The midfielder progressed through the junior ranks and made his debut aged 19 in 1998. He became a first-team regular in 2001 but he left the club when he was not offered a new contract in 2001. In total, he made 42 appearances for the Valiants, scoring four goals.
