Forward injuries mounting up
Achille Campion is set to join Louis Dodds on the sidelines after the French forward was diagnosed with a suspected broken rib.
Dodds suffered a broken toe during the defeat to Crewe while Campion picked up his injury while playing for the Reserves.
Campion has scored eleven goals in seven Reserve games including two against Tranmere and would have been pushing for a first-team place.
But with Dodds and Campion ruled out and Alex Nimely on trial at Bolton, Vale’s forward options are Ben Williamson, Dany N’Guessan and Tom Pope, who has only just returned from long-term injury.
Earlier this week, Norman Smurthwaite confirmed that the club may move for a forward before the end of the January transfer window and the loss of two players to injury may persuade him to bring in a new face.
