Williamson pleased with Pope’s blessing
Striker Ben Williamson has vowed to start scoring goals this season and has thanked fellow forward Tom Pope for his words of encouragement.
I have to start scoring. I had a few chances and was unlucky not to take them…
Williamson starred as a second-half sub against Coventry on Saturday and after the game Pope claimed the striker could go on to play at a higher level. Williamson told the Sentinel: “Tom has played every game and is scoring goals for fun, so to hear something like that from him is a massive compliment.
“Hopefully I can do what he says, but I have to get in the team and start scoring first.
“It’s been frustrating because I want to be starting games, but I have to start scoring. I had a few chances and was unlucky not to take them.
“Overall the team is more important, but I do have personal goals and I want to be scoring. I was a bit frustrated because I could have had two or three against Coventry, but it wasn’t to be.
