Vale beat League One side to Jones’ signature
Port Vale’s increased power in the transfer market has been emphasised by a report in the Colchester Daily Gazette which explains that League One outfit Colchester United had also targeted new signing Daniel Jones.
Jones signed for Vale last week following his release from Sheffield Wednesday and the fact that Vale can prove to be a more attractive option than a team in a higher division speaks volumes for the club’s increased standing following the takeover by Paul Wildes and Norman Smurthwaite.
According to the newspaper:
“The Gazette understands that the U’s were closing in on a deal to sign the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player, after he left Championship club Sheffield Wednesday by mutual consent last week… however, the 26-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, has instead signed a short-term deal for League Two promotion-chasers Port Vale.”
