Pope: My long-term ambitions are here
Tom Pope has told the Sentinel that “it’s fantastic to play for the club you have supported all your life” and that he would be delighted to extend his stay at Vale Park.
Pope commented: “It’s fantastic to play for the club you have supported all your life. It’s been a dream from day one, really. It doesn’t get much better than scoring the winner, especially a last-minute one.
“I’ve done it a couple of times and it’s a brilliant feeling, the best in the world.
“I’ll try to be more selfish this season and get myself into the box more than I did last year.
“I think I was doing too much work in the build-up last time and wasn’t in the box as much as I maybe should have been – I probably put in more crosses than I had shots.
“My long-term ambitions are here. It’s great to play for the club and the ground is only half a mile from my house, so I’d love to stay here.
“But I know I’ve got to do the work, score some goals and be an asset to the club. If I can do that, I don’t see why I can’t stay for a long time.”
