Loft elevated to Vale captain
Doug Loft made captain: Port Vale FC have announced that last season’s player of the year Doug Loft will be this season’s captain.
Loft replaces last season’s skipper Marc Richards who has subsequently moved to League Two rivals Chesterfield.
The popular Loft joined Vale in 2009 and was manager Micky Adam’s second signing for the club. Loft began his career with Hastings United before a spell at Brighton where he came to the attention of Adams. Loft has also had a loan spell at Dagenham and Redbridge.
The Maidstone-born utility man has now made 99 starts and 18 sub appearances for the Valiants, scoring nine goals in the process.
He was named the official 2012 Port Vale FC player of the year after scoring five goals in 46 games. He also picked up the Away Travel Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Season awards. During a successful season, Loft was also nominated for the divisional player of the month for August after a run of four goals in six games.
The midfielder signed a two-year deal with the club in 2011 which ties him to the Valiants until the summer of 2013.
Our best wishes to Doug Loft for the season ahead.
