Valiants against Racism statement
Valiants against Racism statement: The recent relaunch of the Valiants Against Racism website and the appointment of Gareth Owen as Port Vale’s Kick It out ambassador for the season gives us all an opportunity to come together to combat and challenge racism, prejudice and discrimination in all its forms.
Vale travel to Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday and this is an ideal opportunity to show that any form of racism and prejudice should not be tolerated.
Gareth Owen, the club’s Kick It Out ambassador commented: “We are pleased to support ‘Valiants against Racism’ in their work to raise awareness of discrimination. Port Vale does not accept discrimination of any kind – whether that be racism, sexism or based or in any other form of bigotry.”
Dominic Meir of VAR/Vale Park Initiative (and the “Game On” project with the support of Port Vale FC) added: “With the work that we do under the umbrella of VAR, we are very much aware of the racism and prejudice that young people can be exposed to, within the community but also sadly within football grounds following the club that they love.
Sadly, in recent times, Port Vale FC has had its name connected to some negative episodes. This Saturday is a great opportunity to show that these views are not wanted and that the fans as a group have the power to demonstrate resilience.
If anyone hears any racism or bigotry in the stands, then they have the power to report it and not to accept it. Combating racism and prejudice is not just confined to a week of action in October, but has to be acted upon daily.
I know many supporters do speak out against it, let’s hope that the decent majority of fans find their voice with them.
It would be upsetting to see Port Vale FC and the Vale fans associated with such incidents again, for this match or at anytime during the season and any possible recriminations that may occur as a result.
We need all the help that we can in bringing the Team success- and the fans can play their part in achieving this. Up the Vale!”
VAR, Reveal Theatre and the “Game On” Partners are proud of its support from Port Vale FC and its supporters. Fans are critical to making VAR a success and helping to combat views on race/religion and difference that can divide our communities.
VAR would like to thank OVF in its support with promoting the VAR agenda and their help with the relaunch of the VAR website.
