Defender Gavin Gunning has not minced his words by admitting the Port Vale side were “****” at the start of the season.
The defender has nailed a place at left-back in recent games and his all-action style has endeared him to Vale fans.
I appreciate what the fans have been like towards me. It’s a real positive and I hope I’ve had a positive impact on the pitch…
Gunning told the media: It was a **** start that we had and no one is trying to paint over that but the fans have stayed with us. It was a great effort from all those who went to Exeter and they made a lot of noise too. They were excellent.
“I appreciate what the fans have been like towards me. It’s a real positive and I hope I’ve had a positive impact on the pitch. If I’m popular it must be the way I play or maybe they’ve seen me off the pitch… I used to think I’m quite quiet but obviously not.
“I’m quite aggressive on the pitch so maybe it’s come from that. I was a bit of a hell-raiser when I was younger but I’ve settled down a bit now.
“I came in here and wasn’t sure what was happening but I got a deal until January and then we go from there I suppose.”
