New Port Vale manager Jon Brady has said he is enjoying the challenge as he reveals more details on changes he has made and standards he expects.
I’ve loved every minute so far. Bit by bit all we’re trying to do is improve every day and every day try and find a way to be better. I feel we are getting better…
Brady has got off to a decent start with two cup wins and two clean sheets. He told BBC Radio Stoke that there is a system in place to ensure the upward moment continues saying: “yeah, every day in the building we have a review of how we trained, how we played and a review of how we’ve worked as a staff group. So, we take stock on a few things daily and I’ve loved every minute so far. Bit by bit all we’re trying to do is improve every day and every day try and find a way to be better. I feel we are getting better.”
Brady has also been boosted by a chance to make changes for the cup clashes and assess his squad. He said: “Yes, it’s been brilliant I’ve been quite lucky in that respect. I feel I’ve been lucky to get live eyes on the whole group. It’s (also) great from the medical team to have players back.”
The new manager says the team spirit remains good despite Vale’s lowly League position but good morale alone won’t win games. He commented: “You can’t win on morale and spirit alone but it’s huge for the team. I feel this team has got it already but it’s about aligning that energy a little bit more.”
With that in mind, Brady has empowered the players explaining: “First and foremost is clarity in roles and responsibility on and off the pitch. I’ve already created a steering group within the group. I want to empower the players within that group to drive the standards in behaviours on and off the pitch. (However) I think any player, not just senior players should have those standards. There should be freedom to speak up among the group as well. I love communication and I want to know how they feel. I want to empower them.”
The new manager is not dwelling on past performances adding: “I don’t want to talk about what happened in the past we’re looking forward. There’s a fantastic man who isn’t the manager here in Darren Moore and I have the utmost respect for him but everything (is about) going forward now.”
And going forward means maintaining the positive momentum of recent weeks as the manager explained: “If we don’t maintain the momentum we know our fate. We maintain that (momentum) through our habits and standards. The way we train, the way we approach a game and show no fear. There are going to be moments where we have to ride out a storm or two but otherwise we’ll never step backwards but always try and come forwards.”
