Rob Fielding

Rob Fielding is the editor of onevalefan and has been a Port Vale FC fan since 1980. He has written about Port Vale for 30 years. Rob has worked in many roles including in sports journalism and marketing. He has written a Port Vale book “No Ordinary Season” and curated the “Vale Vaults” Port Vale memorabilia exhibition. Rob has appeared on numerous radio broadcasts and podcasts (including BBC Radio Stoke) and written for multiple publications (including submissions for the Guardian, 442 and Word Soccer) about his club. His favourite player is striker Andy Jones and his favourite match is the FA Cup win over Spurs in 1988.

It’s a game they could do without, nothing to be made out of it unless you win, then it’s another game we could do without. Staying up and establishing ourselves in League one is more of a priority for me. Once you are in a stable environment it gives up budgets you are able to work to, to make the club more solid.

Losing or winning is not relevant to me. As people have mentioned, staying up in the league is priority one. If we win that’s nice, brings some much need money for the club and sends us to the fifth round to get a bit more money. Lose and it frees up one more day for training/resting, and we still get some money to be invested in the club, plus the extra tickets sales from both scenarios is a nice bonus.

Perhaps in a minority, but I favour an extended FA Cup run and its vital revenue. More success in the competition could also provide a very positive knock on effect for league survival, with form and extra confidence for those critical games,
