Port Vale manager Darren Moore has praised goalkeeper Ben Amos’ performance during the Football League Trophy game with Wrexham and says he is “breathing down Connor Ripley’s neck.”
Amos impressed with his performance during normal time and then produced three penalty saves to ensure the Valiants won the penalty shootout. However, it was only the veteran’s fourth game of the season with Ripley an ever-present in League games.
He is breathing down Connor Ripley’s neck and I think that has encouraged Connor to perform the way he has been. I see both goalkeepers as number ones…
Darren Moore on Ben Amos
Moore told the media: “I thought Ben’s performance was right up there with Nathan Smith’s as somebody that has been around things but hasn’t had the exposure he would have wanted.
“He trains properly. We took penalties yesterday after training so, when it went to penalties tonight I said to the boys, ‘we’ve done this, we’ve practiced it, let’s go and finish it off’. Ben Amos yesterday in the penalties (in training) was fully stretching the players. They knew to score they had to hit the corner, anything short of that Ben was saving. He pulled off some outstanding saves then and I fancied him tonight to pull off a couple of saves.
