Reading have been fined by the Football Association for ‘misconduct in relation to crowd control’ after their fixture with Port Vale in January was abandoned following an on-pitch protest.
In January, thousands of supporters invaded the pitch after 16 minutes in protest against owner Dai Yongge, with the match abandoned and forced to be replayed later in the season.
The Football League had already hit the club with a suspended three-point deduction but the FA have now issued a £7,500 fine, with £3,750 suspended until the end of the 2024/25 season as well as a warning during a disciplinary hearing.
Port Vale fans at the game joined in with chants and backed protesting Royals supporters, with Reading fans donating towards the John Rudge statue fundraiser.
The Valiants lost the replayed fixture 2-0 and were relegated to League Two at the end of the campaign. Despite the protests, Yongge still remains as club owner at time of publication.
