Darren Moore assessed the home draw against Tranmere Rovers when he spoke to the press – here are the key points from his post-match press conference.
The Valiants were held to a goalless draw at Vale Park on Saturday and here’s what Moore had to say.
On the game:
“I thought we were too much for them and I thought we were getting around the sides of them and through them and creating them some chances and momentum. Credit to Nigel (Adkins) who saw and made a change and combatted it and both teams were (then) shape against shape and looking for that chance. We thought that chance fell to us and it was an excellent save by their goalkeeper. I thought it was in. But it’s turned out to be a point. I’ve said to the boys we’re obviously disappointed we wanted to win but it’s the clean sheet which is the most important thing. With a clean sheet you get a chance of winning the game. The main thing is the clean sheet. I think last season maybe this type of game we may not have come back with anything. We take the point and move on.”
On the home support:
“I thought it was incredible to be at home in front of our home fans. Incredible support by them and a real good atmosphere. We thank the fans for creating that atmosphere.”
On the opposition:
“We came up against a very strong team. Tranmere are very organised. They are very astute but again we forced them to change today and I think that’s another positive for us.”
On the return of Jayden Stockley:
“I am so pleased to have Jayden back. To have a number nine in there, he fashioned a couple of chances and you can see what he brings to us. When teams sit deep you’re only a whisker away from getting it on his head. We’re pleased to have him back.”
On Kyle John making his home debut as a sub:
“Credit to Kyle. What he’s done has been immense the way he performed in pre-season and he certainly deserved this chance.”
On the back three:
“Immense I thought all three of them complemented each other really well and they are developing a nice understanding. They give the team a real platform. The three of them does what it says on the tin.”
On absences:
“(Lorent Tolaj) He’s sustained a freak eye injury in training. We hope it won’t keep him out too long. It’s a freak incident he got a finger in his eye and the swelling restricted his vision. We hope he’ll recover from that and be ready for next week. Young Benicio was ill and he’s another one of those exciting players that we wanted to show to the Vale fans. So, we were able to bring Chizzy and Jayden Stockley in to complement our attacking changes.”

A point hard earned but we seem to pick up injuries and some times the player or players are out for weeks. 4 points out of6 is a start but Vale Park should be a fortress and the opposition given nothing. Keep the faith and let’s get out of this division.
I couldn’t make it to the game so watched on PVTV. Is it just the audio or was the crowd quite subdued yesterday? It sounded really lacking of any atmosphere.
Clean sheet but nothing to get excited about just yet. Also, I honestly admire BG but think he’s the wrong man for the captaincy. He should be 100% focused on finding spaces to dart into and performing perfectly timed runs rather with the on field duties of a captain. UTV
