Port Vale were beaten 2-0 by League One near-neighbours Burton Albion in Saturday’s friendly game.
The home side took the lead on nine minutes when summer signing Billy Boden finished from inside the area. Vale countered through Tolaj but his header was just wide. There was a further chance for the Valiants when Paton broke clear but it was 1-0 to Burton at the break.
The home side hit the back of the net early in the second period but Orsi’s effort was deemed offside. Former Valiant Ben Whitfield was next to threaten with his effort going wide. However, Albion did score on seventy minutes when Orsi’s effort was saved only for Godwin-Mailfe to net the rebound.
It remained 2-0 at the final whistle with the Valiants unable to find the net for the second friendly in a row.
Port Vale:
Amos, Sang, Jones, Debrah (Lomax), Hall, Shorrock (Plant), Ojo, Lowe (Garrity), Paton (Croasdale), Tolaj, Curtis (Hart)

We do not seem to have a settled playing formation yet. The manager has got his work cut out and no sign of any cohesion on any of his line ups.
Sorry I have not got a clue what this manager is trying with these players and Debrah is even slower than last season.
Darren Moore has won 5 of his last 40 managerial games. I hope that he does not become the Gareth Southgate of League 2 with an over cautious approach which is how he tends to set teams up coupled with an inability to get results which his record over the past 40 managerial games indicates!!!!!
An under strength and experimental line up that failed. Hope lessons have been learned from this.
Sorry to wine on, and I really do hope I’m proven wrong but we have a very big problem with the owners and the people running the club. Carol has gone from blindly defending the undefendable in Flitcroft to giving Darren Moore over half a million quid to spend after winning just 4 games in the total of last season. Again I can’t stress how much I hope I’m wrong, but to give a manager with Moores record this sum of money at our level is showing staggering belief in the man. To me, we have signed 10 players (9 outfield) 8 of whom were playing at a standard worse than what we were playing at last season, that’s a massive gamble for any club. Other concerns are Byer not making an appearance as yet, the much under estimated Chislett (by the manager) seems to be struggling after his knock at Kidsgrove, and the disappearance of Nathan Smith. Smith like everyone else struggled last season but at league two level his battling never say die attitude could prove invaluable.
same rubbish as last season hope it improves sharpish !
For goodness sake these are pre-season friendlies to get match minutes into players. Let’s start being negative after 3 or 4 games eh!.
From 1 win from being top of league 1 (before losing badly to Burton) to relegation & not being able to thrash non league teams. At this rate we could be playing Stafford Rangers in a few seasons time. Please prove me wrong. 60 years of supporting the Vale has never been so hard.
Forever the optimism from the Vale supporters at the signing of the players pre season, but look at the goals scored against what should be inferior opposition very reminiscent of last season I only hope I’m wrong but this does not look good. Will assess the state of play after 10 games before commenting further.
Isn’t I’ve got to agree with you I just do not have any faith in this manager , I just don’t see what he is doing with the recent signings, I said I would leave it until they have played a few games before I make my mind up about this manager, but after Saturday he’s a NO NO, there does not seem to be any go, or leadership, on field or off.
Of the players in genuine contention for a starting place in the team, 9 weren’t involved in the game. Ripley, Henneghan, Smith, Clarke, Byers, Stockley, Paton, Chislett and Dipepa.
Three more: Croasedale, Hart and Garrity only came on in the second half.
For various reasons, involving injuries, players still building fitness and players needing minutes in their legs, that team has very little resemblance to the team which will start the season.
Yes, it was still disappointing, but there’s absolutely no need for fans to start spitting their dummies at this stage. Get a grip on reality lads and give the manager a chance.
