Port Vale’s Football League Trophy opponents named
The Valiants have been placed in a group which includes Wrexham and Salford City. An U21 team will be added to the group soon. Fixture details for the tournament will be announced soon.
Luton Town to play at Vale Park in a friendly
The official Luton Town website says a Luton Town XI will visit Vale Park in a summer friendly game. The website reports that “a Luton Town XI will travel to Vale Park as we are set to visit Port Vale on Tuesday 30th July. We will be sending a mixed squad of first team and under-21 players to Vale Park.”
Rob Page dismissed as Wales manager
Former Port Vale manager Rob Page has been sacked as the Wales International manager. Page, who was in charge of the Valiants during the 2015-16 season had been in charge of his country for three years but had failed to qualify for the 2024 European Championships.
Hornby on trial at Chesterfield
Former Port Vale keeper Sam Hornby is training with League Two newcomers Chesterfield. Hornby is a free agent after leaving Colchester United at the end of the season. He could form a partnership with another former Vale keeper as Ryan Boot is currently Chesterfield’s only senior goalkeeper.
