As always there are a lot of things going on in the world of English football. The new season comes with a lot of opportunities and challenges for all of the clubs and the dice are mixed again. After living through some difficult times the club Port Vale is back on track. The traditional football club from Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, England, has a long history.
Between the years 2003 and 2012 the club slipped back to the fourth tier facing many difficulties. Finally being back to League two after a lot of hard work, failed experiments about the playing style did not lead to great successes either. Now the club has had some recent achievements and got more in the focus of interest again. The team is the fourth promoted to League One, from which Port Vale was relegated in 2017. Forest Green Rovers, Exeter City and Bristol Rovers had risen directly from places as well.
Now the new season has started and many fans and gambling enthusiasts are fevering about the outcome of the upcoming times. Many ask themselves how will the season of Port Vale go on? Will they end up in relegation again or do they have chances to get promoted? And what are the odds for that to happen on betting apps? We have the facts you need to know!
New season, new players, new projects
When a club is struggling for some time its finances often struggle as well. That means that the club has less means to invest in itself and this can lead to even further relegation if the players and trainers do not do their very best to succeed and get back on track. Fortunately, the small club from Stoke has finally made it, knocking Mansfield Town out of the game at Wembley in London back in May. Now the motivation is back as well and so is the money flow.
With the new means the club seeks to invest in its squad immediately in order to strengthen its chances for the future. Some weeks ago the club Port Vale held a press conference, giving fans and supporters the chance to ask questions to the main bosses of the team. The manager Darrell Clarke, the owner Carol Shanahan, the chief executive Colin Garlick and the director of the team David Flitcroft announced during the conference that they are planning on getting new bloods on the team.
Apparently the club of Port Vale is looking to get six or even seven new players to add to the team. While at the time the club had 17 senior professionals in the squad, the newcomers hoped to add new strength and improve the dynamic in the team. The last two newcomers that have been added to the squad of Port Vale were the Belgian player Funso Ojo for the midfield and the defender Lewis Cass who transferred from Newcastle.
In the end of June the club additionally announced their retained list confirming new departures and arrivals to the team. While the player David Amoo is leaving the club, Nathan Smith and Aidan Stone have signed new contracts. Furthermore, the club announced that they are in ongoing negotiations about the players Jamie Proctor, Mal Benning and James Gibbons which are all three currently without any contract.
The club has also announced that they will spend another 1.2 million pounds developing Vale Park for next year. They added that their inventions into the ground will rise in the upcoming months.
Future plans and goals
It is clear that the club cannot directly reach for the top. Football is about slowly working towards the top and it is always important to be realistic in order to maintain motivation, create continuous progress and avoid disappointments.
The aims of the club for this season are clear. They want to settle in the lower mid and find a cozy and yet stable position. The chairman of the Vale Supporters Club, Mark Porter, said that the bookies will probably not put Port Vale up on top directly given that they just recently promoted to the League One. In his eyes this season will be more about getting used to the new environment of the new league and finding a good spot there to operate from rather than reaching for the top directly. It is important to be realistic and stay a bit under the radar.
The bookies have tipped the club of Port Vale as 17th favorite for the new League and it is to expect that the trainer Darrell Clarke will go for this position as well to establish a stable ground to work on.
Even though Mark Porter mentioned that bookies are not always right and that the club has surprised everyone in the past as well, he underlined that it is more important to set a certain groundwork now for the first season in League One. As they will play against strong clubs like Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth, and Peterborough, it is hard to evaluate the outcome of this season especially without the needed groundwork being set yet.
This humbleness of Mark Porter still came with some motivating and optimistic words. In his opinion the club will do a great performance this year and has good chances of getting out strongly. Due to many changes happening it is hard to know what to expect but with the new players on board the squad is much stronger than before and also the new arrivals always add a certain amount of fresh energy to the team. Energy which is required to tackling the challenges of the first season in League One.
