United Valiants – time to bin the boos and back the boys
Rob Fielding argues that this is the crunch time of the season and the time for all fans to unite with their support of the team.
Rob Fielding writes…
Regardless of your views of individual players, the tactics, the coaching staff or the performance, let’s put them aside for the remainder of the season and be united in our support of the Valiants…
Back in 2013, Port Vale’s promotion season had gone off off the rails somewhat and I published an article on here calling on fans to “bin the boos and back the boys”. I think the time is nigh to repeat that appeal.
Afterall… this is it. This is the crunch time. We need to continue to get points whichever way we can – whether the side wins elegantly or wins ugly – it’s still three points as far as the table is concerned. Now is not the time to worry about aesthetics or style. It’s the results that are important so this is no time for detailed critique or complains. Let’s wait till the summer to assess the squad and players. Let’s just make a heck of a lot of noise to spur the team on.
Also, interim manager Andy Crosby has also made it clear that the supporters are the “twelfth man”. He’s already said that “They (the fans) have such a big part to play…. the fans can give us an extra five or ten extra percent.” Well, if that’s true and the man in charge is asking for it, shouldn’t we as the supporters get on and deliver for them?
So, my appeal would be – regardless of your views of individual players, the tactics, the coaching staff or the performance, let’s put them aside for the remainder of the season and be united in our support of the Valiants. The noise when Jamie Proctor scored THAT goal against Sutton was deafening. We need to repeat it again and again…
Afterall, after all the terrible recent events involving Darrell Clarke, the club has remained united, has remained resilient and in terms of players and staff is probably as united as it has ever been. It would be great if that united front was reflected in the supporter base too and everyone pulled together to see if we can attempt the “p” word this campaign.
Nothing is guaranteed in football. It could be that this season ends in disappointment but if we all pull together now at least we won’t regret that we didn’t provide our extra “five or ten percent” when we were specifically asked to do so.
So for these remaining games, I really hope all Port Vale fans will join me in binning the boos and backing the boys.
