Former Valiants: Billy Knott opts for Canvey move
Two former Vale players have moved to new clubs this summer.
Winger Byron Moore has left Bristol Rovers and joined Bury. It means the winger could face former clubs Vale and Crewe next season.
Meanwhile, Billy Knott has opted for the somewhat surprising move of joining Concord Rangers (based on Canvey Island).
Knott was born in Canvey Island and Concord chairman, Antony Smith, told the clubs official website: “I can safely say I’m still in shock being able to say that our very own original Beach Boy is going to be setting the Conference South alight next season for Concord Rangers
“I have known Billy’s family for over thirty years, and they have been there for me in the past when I took over the club twenty years ago next year.”

Concord Rangers are not formerly Canvey Island FC. Canvey Island FC (who many Vale fans remember from our 2000 FA Cup exit) are still alive and kicking and they play in the Isthmian League. Concord Rangers, also based on Canvey Island, are a totally different football club [Editor’s note: now corrected, thanks!] Lincoln City manager, Danny Cowley, started his career at Concord and he did a superb job in taking them to their current level. I am surprised Billy Knott has signed for Concord, but I look forward to seeing him playing in the NFL (South) in the coming season
