Goalkeeper Ryan Boot apologises for performance and vows to bounce back
Goalkeeper Ryan Boot has apologised to Port Vale fans for his performance against Crewe but says he will rectify the mistake.
Boot made two errors with one leading to a goal before leaving the pitch on 23 minutes to be replaced by Sam Hornby. Boot had picked up an injury but it was uncertain whether the switch was due to that or his overall performance.
I owe an apology to the Port Vale FC fans after today. The travelling support was fantastic and my performance didn’t match up to it. I let the lads down, but look forward to rectifying it next time out…
Boot was replaced by Sam Hornby who went on to have a fine game as it ended in a 2-2 draw.
After the game, Boot tweeted to say: “I owe an apology to the Port Vale FC fans after today. The travelling support was fantastic and my performance didn’t match up to it. I let the lads down, but look forward to rectifying it next time out.”
Manager Neil Aspin added: “We all make mistakes but you have to bounce back. Part of being a footballer is about the mental side of things. That’s down to every individual, everybody who wants to have a career in football, but you have to be mentally strong.
“Time will tell how anybody bounces back. It is up to the individual. He will obviously be disappointed. I don’t know what the extent of his injury is but you have to get over that and get on with it.”
