Tom Anderson leaves Port Vale
Tom Anderson leaves Port Vale: the Valiants are facing a shortage in central defence after Burnley loanee Tom Anderson was recalled by his parent club.
Burnley had an option to recall the centre-half in the January window and have now exercised their option to cut short his season-long loan spell.
Signed on loan at the start of the season by former Port Vale manager Michael Brown, Anderson had become a regular in the Port Vale defence under Brown’s replacement Neil Aspin. Anderson would often partner fellow youngster Nathan Smith in the centre. The tall Burnley loanee had made 24 first team appearances for Port Vale this season.
The departure of Gavin Gunning plus Anderson’s departure leaves Port Vale with just Nathan Smith, Joe Davis, Antony Kay and Zac Jules as central defensive options.
It now looks likely that Port Vale manager Neil Aspin will look to add one, possibly two more defenders to his Port Vale squad to cover for the loss of Gunning and Anderson.
An official Port Vale FC press release on Anderson’s departure confirmed the news commenting:
Tom Anderson leaves Port Vale
Port Vale can confirm that defender, Tom Anderson, has returned to his parent club Burnley FC after being recalled from his loan.
Tom Anderson joined the club on a season long loan on the transfer deadline day in August, however Burnley had the option to recall the defender in January and have decided to exercise that.
We would like to thank Tom for his efforts whilst at Vale Park, and everyone at the club wishes him the best in the future.
